March 9, 2010 - What do Alzheimer's Disease, Lacrosse, Cable TV Advertising & Zombies Have In Common?

Answer: Action Video, of course!!

A little over a month ago, I asked for suggestions on ways I could honor the memory of my grandfather here at Action Video. I received many suggestions, but the one that struck closest to my heart was from Tracy Gray, of Gray & Associates, an Atlanta-based marketing and public relations firm. Tracy suggested that I find a cause that my grandfather was active with, and offer to produce a video for them. I have taken Tracy’s suggestion and slightly modified it. My grandfather suffered from Alzheimer's Disease for more than five years. After doing some searching around, I realized that while there is plenty of information about Alzheimer's Disease, there isn't much of it in video form. That being the case, I have been in contact with the Georgia Chapter of The Alzheimer's Association, and will be producing an Alzheimer's video for them...at no charge.

On to lacrosse, also known as "the fastest game on two feet." Action Video has partnered with Atlanta Youth Lacrosse, Georgia's premiere lacrosse training organization. We recently finished the production of a highlight video of the Deep South Classic Tournament. This tournament was designed to bring the best lacrosse teams in the Southeast together with college lacrosse recruiters. We shot 10 games in a single day, from two different angles: one camera on top of the press box, and one camera on the sideline. We then took the over 13 hours of footage and edited it down to a 10 minute highlight video. Additionally, in the very near future, we will begin production on a series of lacrosse training videos.

Action Video has also teamed up with Comcast to produce TV commercials. This is actually a 2-way partnership. When someone comes to Comcast to produce a commercial, Comcast will out-source some of the production of commercials to Action Video. On the flip side of the coin, if you need a commercial produced, Action Video can not only handle the entire production of the commercial, but we will also act as your ad agency with Comcast. Together with Comcast, we will determine the proper channels & times of day to run your commercial to reach the demographic of your choosing...and all within the budget constraints you set. You may think that you could save some money by having Action Video produce your commercial, then you deal with Comcast directly. Thanks to our partnership with Comcast, that’s actually not the case. As an ad agency, I can charge you the same rates Comcast would charge you, but I'll handle everything for you. So it’s a win-win situation for us all.

Zombies...yeah, I know, it seems a little bit odd, but I promise there's a good explanation. Action Video has been taking a small role in the production of a local independent film, "Ace The Zombie". So far, Action Video has hosted one round of auditions, one round of call-backs, and one round of on-screen make-up tests using our in-house blue screen. The script for the film will be finalized in the next day or two, and most of the characters have been cast. As the production of the film moves forward, I will be taking a larger part in the film, depending upon my availability during the film's shooting schedule. I will certainly take on the role of Special Technical Advisor for the film, and if the schedules can be worked out, I may also be taking on the role of Director of Photography.

In the next couple of months, we have several productions already booked. We will be producing the graduation videos for American Intercontinental University, The Lovett School, Wesleyan School, and Atlanta Girls’ School. We will also be producing the recital videos for Steppin' Out Performing Arts Center. We've produced these video for many years in the past, and look forward to producing them again this year.

February 2, 2010 - I'm Hoping You Can Give Me A Little Advice

Happy Groundhog Day Everyone,

I have to admit that I'm not really feeling the Groundhog Cheer though…or any kind of cheer lately. Just over three weeks ago, my grandfather passed away. He was the most honorable, intelligent, and dignified man I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Since his death, I've been trying to figure out if there’s any way I can honor his memory here at Action Video, but I have been unable to think of anything. I would greatly appreciate it if you have any suggestions you could give me.

Until I can come up with something better, I'm offering a 10% discount to all my clients, in my grandfather’s name. Just mention this offer when you bring in your work*.

Also, I'm working on putting together some new promotional materials. It seems that I'm lacking testimonials from current clients. As is always the case when a new year rolls around, I've been evaluating things here at Action Video. With decreased production costs and better efficiency, I've decided to reduce the prices on a number of our services.

Before I get into the reduced pricing list, though, here’s a reminder of some of Action Video’s on-going specials:

Disc Duplication
It appears that the materials cost for CD’s & DVD’s has hit rock-bottom. Also, with the number of machines we now use, and our high-speed disc printer, we are now running an output capacity of as many as 1,000 discs per day. Below is the new pricing…

2-9 Copies – $3.50 each (down from $3.65)
10-24 Copies - $3.25 each (down from $3.35)

Video Production
Our internal costs haven’t really been reduced here, and efficiency can’t be increased beyond where it already is. The reason I'm reducing prices here is because in this economy, people are less willing than in the past to pay the prices we've been charging for so many years. This price-drop has more to do with wanting to get a higher number of production jobs than anything else.

Half Day, Standard Def - $475 (down from $650)
Half Day, Standard Def, 2nd Camera - $250
Full Day, Standard Def - $675 (down from $975)

Half Day, High Def - $975 (down from $1,800)

For those on a tight budget, with very little content to shoot….
Standard Def - $125/hr
High Def - $375 for 1st hour, $200 for each additional hour

DVD Conversion
There are really no improvements here, but just to stay competitive, we’re reducing the price here as well. There are no price differences based on the format of your original tape…BetaMax, VHS, VHS-C, 8mm, Hi8, Digital8, miniDV, DVCam, DVCPro, BetaSP…as long as the length is less than 2 hours, the price is $15 per tape (down from $20). If it goes over 2 hours, the cost is $20 per tape (down from $25). If you have short tapes, we can combine them to the same DVD. For example, if you have 4 tapes that total less than 2 hours, it would be $15 for the first tape, then $5 for each additional tape, making the total $30.

Quantity discounts: If you have a large number of tapes, we offer quantity discounts. 1-4 tapes is $15 each (down from $20), 5-9 tapes is $12.50 per tape (down from $15), 10 or more tapes is $10 per tape (down from $12.50).

Audio Production
Record Albums Converted to Audio CD – We have a new record player specifically designed for this purpose. The audio is loaded to the computer via USB connection. The audio quality is much better, and requires much less processing than previous methods. As always, we run a series of digital filters to reduce background noise, pops, and clicks. The we divide the album into tracks, so each song is individually selectable. The new cost is $25 per album (down from $35).

Audio Tapes Converted to Audio CD – No real improvements here. We still load the audio from the cassette to the computer, then run a series of filters to enhance the audio and reduce any background noise. The new cost is $25 per tape (down from $35).

Video To CD Conversion
Do you have a video you want to upload to YouTube, Myspace, Facebook, Vimeo, or any other video sharing site? It’s pretty simple for us to do the conversion for you. We've figured out the fastest, easiest ways to do it. We always check the particular site you’re planning to upload to, so that we ensure the conversion meets their specifications. If your video is less than 5 minutes, the price is $20 (new price category). If your video is 6-30 minutes, the price is $35 (down from $50). If your video is 31-60 minutes, the price is $50 (down from $75). If your video is 61-90 minutes, the price is $75 (down from $125).

Wedding Videos
Several of my long-time clients who are getting married this year have convinced me to get back into the wedding video business. I don’t have any pricing set in stone yet, but costs will range from $700 to $5,000, depending on whether it’s Standard-Def or High-Def, and what kind of extras you want.

November 9, 2009 - The Recession Is "Very Likely Over"

Last Tuesday, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke declared that the recession is "very likely over," as consumers showed the first tangible signs of spending again.

I have to admit that I am seeing some signs that the economy is improving. Action Video has teamed up with W. Produced the Spring recital videos for Steppin’ Out Performing Arts Center. We've produced videos for numerous dance companies, and we would recommend Steppin’ Out above any of the others…hands down amazing.

Worked diligently with Attorney Jim Swain and corporate business consultant Doug Trenary to get The Academy Of VA Pension Planners up and running.
